Yes — it's the law. In Queensland, towing a caravan or trailer over 750kg requires a working electric brake controller. But legality is the minimum. Without one, your caravan battery isn't charging in transit — you arrive at camp with whatever charge was left when you departed. Not necessarily. This is one of the most common misconceptions we see. Even if your HiLux, Ranger, or Prado came from the factory with a 12-pin plug, the auxiliary power feeds — fridge circuit, breakaway battery charge, hydraulic brakes — are rarely wired. It's a physical plug sitting there. The circuits inside still need to be wired to suit your specific caravan before any of those functions will work.
