When setting up your vehicle to be ready to tow your caravan, camper or trailer, there are a number of upgrades that are necessary to ensure your vehicle is towing ready.

Typically a towing package would include the following:

  • Electric Brake Controller: As the name implies, a brake controller is an electrical device that engages and regulates a trailer's electric brakes. Essentially, a brake controller consists of two parts: the core component that applies the brakes to the trailer and an interface that is located in the driver's reach inside the cab. The Redarc Towpro V3 is our brake controller of choice and we do hundreds of these installations every year.
  • Anderson Plugs: On the wiring diagram for your caravan or camper, it will typically let you know if you need any Anderson Plugs fitted to the rear of your vehicle. There are different types of Anderson Plugs as well as different size cabling that is required for different applications. Some towing set ups require you to install both a Red and Grey Anderson. Red Anderson Plugs are typically for Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Units. Grey Andersons are typically for battery charging, fridges or a DCDC charger. They can also be used for after market accessories such as a Black Jack Trailer Jack.
  • Ignition Triggered Isolators: These are typically recommended by your caravan or camper's manufacturer and they are for vehicle protection. Installing an ignition triggered isolator.
  • 12 Pin or 7 Pin: This is all dependent on the towing application and cost to install this will vary depending on how many circuits need to be run.

Optional Extras:

  • Dual Battery System (Portable Battery Box, Under Bonnet or Behind the Seat): Setting up a dual battery system in your vehicle can be overwhelming. Let us take the guess work out of this for you and we can provide you with a dual battery solution to help power your fridge or other applications.
  • Safety Dave Monitor & Camera: This is installed into the vehicle and caravan and will help you with your vision when backing up and towing. You can choose between a dash mounted monitor or a rearview mirror monitor.
  • Black Jack Trailer Jack: Installing a Black Jack takes away all the hard work of using a standard Trailer Jack. These are electronic and are fitted to the front drawbar of your caravan or camper.
  • Savvy Level: "It is an all-in-one levelling solution for Caravans, Campers, Motorhomes or 4WDs. It comprises a small precision electronic device placed in your Caravan, Camper, Motorhome or 4WD communicating, via Bluetooth, to a mobile app on your phone that is operated from your tow vehicle or Motorhome. The result of this communication not only displays advanced levelling information, it computes a full levelling solution providing a hassle-free, quick, smooth and effortless levelling experience."
  • UHF Antenna: The most popular UHF Pack that we sell is the GME 4WD Pack which includes a shorty antenna and radio. This is typically installed onto a loop on your bulbar or nudge bar. We can also install this onto a custom vehicle specific mounting bracket as well.
  • Spotlights or Lightbar: There are many different brands of Lightbars and Spotlights on the market. We find the most popular two brands are Drivetech or Stedi.
